Personal Care
With Whole Foods and the Organic Trade Association both stating
their support for NOP regulation of
organic personal care, many companies are seeking NOP-certified personal care ingredients. One area that
has been particularly hard for formulators is the lack of certified organic,
or even organic compliant, surfactants. Currently the main surfactant is
castile soap, which can be harsh and
usually has a pH of 9 or above.
Earth Supplied Products (ESP) is
working to give formulators a milder
alternative to castile-based surfactants.
Last year they introduced the first organic-certified non-castile surfactant, and this year they are introducing a new and improved version.
ESP Organic SafeSurf SB is the first non-castile foaming and cleansing
surfactant that performs in the 4-7 pH range. This new surfactant is
water-soluble and can be used in a wide range of personal care
products.
ESP also launched two organic-compliant antimicrobials, ESP SafeGuard WS and NOP 205.605, made from a derivative of naturally-grown soap-bark using a state of the art process.
