100 percent renewable sourced film
that is fully compostable. I predict we
can get there by 2013, if not sooner!
We’ve received a lot of praise for organizing this event and becoming a
part of the solution instead of a continuation of the problem.
I’m a firm believer in learning
from my competition and others. Col-
laboration of this kind raises the en-
tire industry, and on a much grander
scale, protects our favorite play-
ground—the Earth. Competition isn’t
only about protecting brand secrets
and retail shelf space. It’s also about
collaboration and the sharing of best
practices that can elevate the entire
industry as a whole. I hope we can in-
spire other companies and individu-
als to do the same regardless of which
industry they operate in. Don’t be
afraid to tackle an issue head-on; just
cut it into manageable bite-size pieces
and engage your like-minded com-
munity. Chances are, you’re not the only one thinking about it.
Justin Gold is the founder and CEO of Justin’s Nut Butter. Gold’s family owned and operated a small natural foods store in Pennsylvania
where he acquired an early education and appreciation for natural
foods. He launched his line of butters made in his kitchen in 2004
while working a full-time job, and in 2006 he created an on-the-go
squeeze pack for himself and friends to have as a high-protein snack option while
hiking, running, biking, skiing, etc. The squeeze pack was a game changer for the
business and now generates over 50 percent of Justin’s revenue. He continues to innovate and recently brought to market Organic Peanut Butter Cups (a favorite of
OP’s editor). You can reach Justin at Justin@justinsnutbutter.com.
